Selected as the recipient of the "Best of Award of Excellence," the highest award in Japan, at the Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards 2025

To commemorate this honor, pairing menus will be available at two restaurants in the hotel from July 1st.

Japanese Hanagoyomi and Teppanyaki Hanagoyomi, located within THE KAHALA HOTEL & RESORT YOKOHAMA Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture / General Manager: Yasutoshi Abe), which will celebrate its fifth anniversary in September 2025, have been selected for the fourth consecutive year as recipients of the "Best of Award of Excellence" award at the "Restaurant Awards 2025" sponsored by Wine Spectator, a globally influential wine magazine. To commemorate this honor, a pairing menu with the restaurant's recommended course will be available for a limited time from Tuesday, July 1 to Monday, August 25, 2025.

The Restaurant Awards honor outstanding wine lists from restaurants around the world, judging a variety of criteria, including the accuracy of the wine list's appellation and vintage information, the list's composition, overall presentation, menu pairings, and wine quality. THE KAHALA HOTEL & RESORT YOKOHAMA is the only hotel in Kanagawa Prefecture to receive the Best of Award of Excellence, and only 17 in Japan have received it. In 2021, our hotel received the Award of Excellence (one glass), and the following year was promoted to the Best of Award of Excellence (two glasses), marking our fourth consecutive year of receiving the award.

Our hotel's wine cellar always stocks over 3,000 bottles of wine across 450 different types, and we will suggest the perfect glass to pair with your meal, taking into consideration a variety of factors such as your purpose, preferences, physical condition on the day, and the weather.

To commemorate this honor, Japanese Hanagoyomi and Teppanyaki Hanagoyomi will be pairing six carefully selected wines from their proud wine cellar with a special dinner course celebrating the hotel's fifth anniversary.

The wine list we envisioned for guests before THE KAHALA HOTEL & RESORT YOKOHAMA opened in September 2020 is completely different from the one we have developed over the past five years, evolving to better suit our guests' tastes and preferences. As part of our hotel's KISCA (Kahala's Initiative for Sustainability, Culture & Art) initiative, which values local people and culture, we are also focusing on Japanese wine producers. It is my role to convey to our guests that the quality of Japanese wine has risen dramatically in recent years and that even small, lesser-known wineries produce excellent wines. We have doubled our selection of Japanese wines from around 20 last year to 40 in the past year. We will continue to hone our skills so that we can offer a wide variety of wines, from hard-to-find wines to up-and-coming winemakers.

<Profile>

Born in Chiba in 1977. Graduated from Tsuji Culinary Institute. After working as an Italian chef and pastry chef, he gained experience in service at Taillevent Robuchon (now Joel Robuchon) in 2002. In 2009, he moved to Singapore and joined Les Amis Group, which operates French, Japanese and shabu-shabu restaurants, as a manager. In 2017, he became the manager of Japanese restaurant Kanda.

He joined Resorttrust Co., Ltd. in 2020 and served as manager of Wine & Spirits at Yokohama Baycourt Club. He is currently the Executive Sommelier Director for the entire Resorttrust Co., Ltd., including THE KAHALA HOTEL & RESORT YOKOHAMA.
