A one-day talk session between Yasutoshi Abe, General Manager of The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama, and Ken Ishihara, CEO of Hospitality Design Yokohama Co., Ltd.
Abe Yasutoshi has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and was appointed Chairman of the Japan Concierge Association in July 2019, and was promoted to General Manager of Les Clefs d'Or, the world's only concierge association organization, after being one of its international members. Ishihara Ken has a total of 30 years of experience as a hotelier at three foreign hotels, the Hyatt (Shinjuku), the InterContinental (Yokohama), and the Westin (Sendai), and has established Hospitality Design Yokohama Co., Ltd., where he is now Representative Director and has carved out his own path. They will be holding a talk session about their thoughts on the future of the hotel industry!

Profile of Yasutoshi Abe
Joined the Pan Pacific Hotel Yokohama in April 1997. Joined the Conrad Tokyo in October 2007. Joined the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo in December 2015 as Chief Concierge. Joined Aman Tokyo in December 2016 as Chief Concierge. In April 2019, joined the opening preparation team for The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama / Yokohama Baycourt Club Hotel & Spa Resort, serving as Director of Concierge. On August 1, 2021, he was appointed General Manager of The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama, a position he still holds today.
Profile of Takeshi Ishihara
Graduated from the Hotel Industry Management School (first batch). Started his career at Hotel Century Hyatt (now Hyatt Regency Tokyo) where he gained 4 years of on-site experience working as a waiter and bartender in banquet halls, restaurants and bars. In 1989, he joined the Yokohama Grand InterContinental Hotel as one of its first batch members in the hotel's opening preparation office.
After training (in the accommodation and guest room departments) at other hotels (Hilton Tokyo and Yatsugatake Kogen Lodge), he worked mainly in sales after the hotel opened. At the age of 39, he became the head of sales, responsible for all sales including accommodation, banquets, weddings, restaurants, and events. He later served as sales director for the Yokohama International Peace Congress Center and Pacifico Yokohama. There, he gained experience in international conferences, academic conferences, exhibitions, and various events throughout the convention facility. He has entertained VIPs from Japan and abroad, and was given the honor of receiving the Imperial Family a total of four times.
He is also an active member of the Yokohama Junior Chamber of Commerce (JCI) and received the 100% Attendance Award in 2004. After the Great East Japan Earthquake, he was transferred to the Westin Hotel Sendai, where he managed a team of sales, marketing, banquet reservations, hotel reservations, weddings, etc. as the head of sales and marketing. He also acted as the acting general manager when the manager was absent. He worked with local companies and organizations, as well as the government, to play a part in the reconstruction support for three years and two months. In order to utilize his approximately 30 years of experience as a hotelier, he became a hospitality consultant and hospitality advisor in October 2014.
He established Hospitality Design Yokohama Co., Ltd., which is now in its 11th year. His main business is advisory work, research and training for hotels, inns, wedding halls and restaurants throughout the country. His responsibilities range from facility management to staff education, customer management and hygiene management. He also lectures at universities and various vocational schools, acts as an advisor for government agencies, general companies and various organizations, holds lectures and seminars and serves as a moderator for symposiums.
Until the closure of Yokohama Marine Tower, he held a total of 52 alcohol and etiquette seminars (whisky, cocktails, wine) as a lecturer. He has visited 47 prefectures in Japan and about 40 countries overseas, traveling and touring hotels and inns as a study and hobby.
